Maverick Viñales: Trastevere73 advice aided Virtual Grand Prix win

After winning the Red Bull Virtual Grand Prix of Spain, Viñales revealed in Fox Asia he had a little help from two-time eSport Champion Trastevere73.

After winning the Red Bull Virtual Grand Prix of Spain, Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) revealed he had a little help from two-time eSport Champion Trastevere73 in an interview with Fox Asia.

Trastevere73, who competes for Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP in the eSport World Championship, is well equipped to winning a Virtual Race or two. And it seems his guidance paid off with Viñales taking his first Virtual Race win, having finished P3 and P2 in the races before.

“If you don’t make any mistakes you can win the race or be on the podium,” said Viñales to Fox Asia. “It’s so hard to stay concentrated for so many laps. Some days ago I spoke with Trastevere, my eSport teammate, Lorenzo Daretti who is with Yamaha, and I asked him ‘how do you stay concentrated for a long race?’ Because for me it’s impossible. I get more nervous than in a real race.”

Viñales made history in Jerez by becoming the first winner of a Virtual Grand Prix event, with Lorenzo Baldassarri (FlexBox HP40) and Gabriel Rodrigo (Kömmerling Gresini Moto3) winning in the Moto2™ and Moto3™ races respectively as a selection of riders from three classes battled on MotoGP™20.

“It’s very nice that we can all be a part of this game,” continued Viñales. “Simulating a race weekend is also so nice. For my friends in Moto3 and Moto2, I gave them some tips for the new game because it’s a bit different and it’s fantastic. I enjoy it a lot because I think all the fans enjoy it. They can see the races and yeah, we are there battling all the time.”

The number 12 then shared a message to the fans: “First of all stay safe at home, it’s the most important thing now. Racing and all this doesn’t matter so much. Now we have to stay safe. But I promise that when we do come back, we’ll come back strong and make you all very proud and for sure it’s going to be a really good year.”
