A look back at the past MotoGP eSport Championship editions

With the 2019 MotoGP™ eSport Championship just 15 days away, let’s look back at how the two previous season finales in Valencia.

The 2019 MotoGP™ eSport Championship finale is fast approaching and with an exciting title fight developing over the first two rounds of the Global Series.

Just seven points separate the three leading gamers – AndrewZh, trastevere73 and Cristianmm17 –at the head of the championship table. And with double points available at the final round, the series is wide open.

This is nothing new for the MotoGP™ eSport Championship, now in its third year of running. In both of its previous incarnations in 2017 and 2018, the title fight went right to the wire.

The inaugural series was won by TRASTEVERE73 when the title was decided in a single intense ten-lap shootout at the Valencia circuit. In a faultless display, the Italian battled with pole sitter MMANDZUKIC17 for the race win. TRASTEVERE73 would eventually prevail, showing that relentless consistency that has become his trademark. With MMANDZUKIC17 taking an excellent second, the Italian IVANGAMER2346  completed the podium in third.

There was plenty of glamour in the final of the 2018 event, with five-time MotoGP™ World Champion Jorge Lorenzo on hand to present the Tissot Award for the rider that took pole position. Reigning champ Marc Marquez meanwhile swapped his Honda RC213V for a microphone as he commentated on the Grand Finale.

Like the year before, the 2018 Grand Finale was a two-horse race between TRASTEVERE73 and ELEGHOST555. After nine laps of racing, the pair were separated by just 0.3 seconds beginning the final lap. But TRASTEVERE73 was inch perfect throughout to claim his second consecutive eSport crown. ANDREWZH scored an encouraging third place.

For the third season running, the Ricardo Tormo Circuit outside Valencia in Spain will not only host the final round of the 2019 MotoGP™ season, but the exciting eSport Championship double-header as well. With the stakes higher than ever, yet drama is guaranteed.
