For the sixth year in succession, the MotoGP™ eSport Championship will be decided at the season’s final event, with four names heading into 2022’s final Global Series round with realistic ambitions of picking up the crown.
The fifth and final round of the expanded Global Series will be contested on November 25th at 16.00 (GMT +1). As it stands after four rounds and eight races, 23 points cover five names with 100 on offer in Friday’s season finale!
Now in its sixth season of existence, the MotoGP™ eSport Championship is still riding a crest of a wave after a brilliant 2021. Throughout last year, the series continued to attract new fans from around the world. After a total of 27 Online Challenges, eight onsite events and seven virtual events since its inception in 2017, the series has been shown by 16 broadcasters, has amassed 103 million video views, 467 million web impressions and 13.2 million online engagements.
A total of 25 gamers from all around the world were entered into the Draft Selection phase earlier this year. That number was then whittled down to the 12 names who have been chosen by the current MotoGP™ teams as their competitors for the all-important Global Series.
Gamers from Australia, Indonesia, Spain, Italy, Great Britain, make up the 12-man grid. And the first four rounds of 2022 have once again showed that this year’s series is set to go all the way. The race to become MotoGP™ eSport Champion couldn’t be tighter – just 23 points cover the first five riders in the standings with 2020 Champ Adriaan_26 (Repsol Honda Team) leading the way by 12.5 points, with last year’s winner Trast73 (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) second. But former champion AndreaSaveri11 (Suzuki Ecstar eSports Team), Cristianmm17 (LCR Honda Castrol eSports Team), and PieroRicciuti55 (Ducati Lenovo eSport Team) are all still in the mix, sitting 13, 17 and 23 points back of the leader respectively. With double points for each race on offer anything can happen.
Presenters Jack Appleyard and Jack Gorst will host the broadcast, which will begin with highlights of qualifying before two races that are guaranteed to deliver drama. The two tracks disputed played host to classic MotoGP™ encounters this year: First race comes from the Termas de Rio Hondo Circuit, the home of the Argentine Grand Prix while the second one will be held at the stunning Mandalika International Street Circuit, the home of the Indonesian Grand Prix.
The gamers will be playing on the new official MotoGP™22 Videogame from videogame developer, publisher and longstanding partner Milestone – which is available to buy now – with race direction and the event powered by Lenovo Legion PCs. The points system will see double points awarded for each race, meaning the winner of a race will score 50 points, the runner up 40, with third place scoring 32 and so on.
