As the first ever MotoGP™ eSport Championship drew to an action-packed close last Friday, it was with all the suspense of a world-class Grand Final that saw the 2017 winner crowned in Valencia. 16 competitors entered the eSport arena at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo until only one gamer remained to take the top step of the podium – 18-year-old Italian, Lorenzo Daretti (‘TRASTEVERE73’).
Befitting all the stars of the MotoGP™, the newest eSport Champion ‘TRASTEVERE73’, was invited to receive his prize and trophy in the annual FIM MotoGP™ Awards Gala, presented by Izaskun Ruiz and Dylan Gray. Recognised alongside the riders of real-life, including 2017 Champion Marc Marquez (Respol Honda Team) and runner-up Andrea Dovizioso (Team Ducati), MotoGP's virtual racer deserved his moment in the spotlight for being best in the business.
During the gala, Marc Marquez and ‘TRASTEVERE73’ met to exchange congratulations over the two feats. Both will be back in 2018 to defend their titles, and to see what a new year brings the premier-class of racing.
