Lorenzo Daretti, known in the eSport world as Trast73, has decided to call time on his career in the MotoGP™ eSport Championship and focus on other pursuits.
The young Italian has been a mainstay in the MotoGP™ World Championship since 2017, and became the series’ most successful rider since then. Winning the inaugural championship that year, he went on to add two more titles to his name.
Since then, he racked up some impressive numbers, proving he was consistently one of the fastest eSport names in the world, as well as being adept at handling high pressure situations. He scored 9 pole positions, as well as 17 wins, the highest number of any eSport competitor in history.
He also claimed 34 podium finishes in 58 races starts, which is also more than any other eSport gamer has managed.
During his time as the king of MotoGP™ eSport, Lorenzo played with the current stars of MotoGP™, including Francesco Bagnaia, Fabio Quartararo and Maverick Viñales.
After his early successes in the MotoGP™ eSport Championship, Lorenzo became a mainstay of Yamaha’s MotoGP™ team, and represented the Monster Energy Yamaha team in each of the past six Global Series.
Explaining his decision to take a step back from the sport, Lorenzo said, “These past eight years were unforgettable and I realised all my dreams. I lived some amazing experiences that will always be in my heart. And I proved three times that I was the best of them all.
“But the time has come to take a different direction. The emotions haven’t been the same recently. I would be lying to myself if I continued to compete. I no longer have an interest in proving to myself that I’m the best.
“It’s still possible to be fast without this fire. But it’s not enough to win the championship.”
Asked what his next step will be, Lorenzo said, “Now it’s time to take some space to decide what I will do next. I’d like to commentate on the races. That’s something that’s interested me ever since I was a kid. But I have other things to discover as well. Another chapter of my life is starting.”
Lorenzo also wanted to add, “I’d like to thank all the people that supported me these last years, like my parents, friends and fans. Also, all the companies and sponsors like Dorna, Ducati, Monster Energy Yamaha, as well as Mkers, Arai, Michelin, Alpinestars, Oakley and many others.
“I hope to see you all at the track one day. And a potential wildcard in the MotoGP™ eSport Championship? Why not?”
