The second round of the MotoGP™ eSport Global Series promises to be closer than ever after the twelve finalists completed qualifying sessions for the third and fourth races of the championship.
As witnessed at Round 1 last month, there was little to separate the fastest eSport gamers in the world, with 0.033s separating the two fastest names in qualifying for race 1 and just 0.66s between the fastest four names ahead of race 2!
Two of the previous MotoGP™ eSport Champions were at the head of the pack, showing they are determined to reclaim their old crown. AndreaSaveri11 took pole position for the first event and adriaan_26 the second.
After a thrilling season opener held at the spectacular Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello during the Italian Grand Prix, round two is a Virtual Round. In another change for this year, there will be a different points-scoring system for these Virtual Rounds. The winner of a race will score 12.5 points, the runner up 10, with third place scoring 8.
The twelve gamers, hailing from Australia, the UK, Indonesia, Italy and Spain, made it through the Pro Draft and Draft Selection phases and have been chosen by the MotoGP™ teams to represent them in the prestigious five-round series.
Round one really puts the skillset of each finalist to the test, with the second round of 2022 comprising of two races on Friday 1st July at 16.00 (GMT+2). The first will see the twelve hopefuls take on the stop-go Le Mans Circuit in France before they attack the fabulous flowing curves of TT Circuit Assen in the second.
Qualifying for race one was full of incident as Ecstar Suzuki’s AndreaSaveri11 eventually took pole position by 0.033 from LCR Honda’s Cristianmm17. Reigning champion Trast73 (Monster Energy Yamaha) was third with a laptime of 1’27.219.
And there was a fair share of drama in qualifying for the second event. adriaan_26, from the Repsol Honda Team took the pole for the second race, with Trast73, AndreaSaveri11 and Red Bull KTM’s Jack Hammer4658 covered by the narrowest of margins.
Jack Appleyard and Jack Gorst will present the show tomorrow (Friday 1st July) at 16:00 (GMT +2) as well as being on commentary duties during an hour-long show, beginning with highlights of qualifying before the twelve finalists take on the two races.
