Andrea Saveri to retire from the MotoGP eSport Championship

The 2019 MotoGP™ eSport Champion has decided to step back from the competition to focus on other pursuits.

Andrea Saveri, known in the eSport world as AndrewZH and AndrewSaveri11, has decided to call time on his career in the MotoGP™ eSport Championship and focus on other pursuits.

The young Italian has been a mainstay in the MotoGP™ World Championship since 2018, and won the series outright in 2019, when competing for the Ducati Lenovo eSport Team, by a narrow margin of two points.

Since then, he never finished outside the top five in the Global Series, proving he was consistently one of the fastest names, as well as being adept at handling high pressure situations. He finished fifth overall in 2020, before coming home third in both the 2021 and 2022 Global Series.

After winning the 2019 MotoGP™ eSport Championship, Andrew met several MotoGP™ stars at the FIM MotoGP™ Awards Gala, such as 2021 champ Fabio Quartararo. That winter he also received recognition for his achievements at the FIM MotoGP™ awards.

A native of Bologna, it seemed natural that Andrew would sign an extension with Ducati for 2020, with Sporting Director Paolo Ciabatti welcoming him as a Ducatisti. It was during this time that he forged a relationship with reigning MotoGP™ Champion Francesco Bagnaia. The pair would occassionally practice together.

Having enjoyed a successful relationship with Ducati, Andrew switched to Suzuki colours for 2022, where he was as competitive as ever, fighting for top spot in the MotoGP™ eSport Championship until the final race.

He leaves the Championship as one of its most successful ever names, having scored more pole positions (12) than any other competitor as well as the fourth highest number of victories (4) in the Global Series and the fourth highest number of Global Series appearances (34).

In an emotional post on Instagram, Andrew wrote, “From 2018 to 2022 – five years full of emotions and incredible experiences, thanks to which I was able to realise some of the dreams that I carried within me. I will always keep every single memory in my heart. The world of MotoGP™ eSport has given me a lot, making me grow as a person and allowing me to meet industry professionals, to whom I am extremely grateful for having believed in me.

“I can only thank with pleasure all the people I've met and who have been close to me, from each of them I've learned something that has helped to improve me in some aspect. I have had fantastic moments in this environment, full of joy and longing, which I have often crossed with the happiness of a child.

“I wish the best to the organisers and to those who will continue in this area! Without the guys from Pro2Be Esports by my side it wouldn't have been the same, they have shown me support inside and outside the competition throughout the journey together. Again, a big thank you to everyone, really, from the bottom of my heart.

“Now it's time for a new adventure, and a journey to discover has just begun!”
